52 Hand Lettered Project – April Recap

“Foreign Words”
Bio Chemistry
So, this is kind of an inside joke of sorts, but “it’s like bio chem” has been phrase I’ve used for years to describe something I don’t understand. It all started back in college when one of my roommates was taking a required biochemistry course. She would occasionally try to explain to me things she was studying and I would stare blankly at her and mutter “I just don’t get it”. End of story. Foreign words to me are like bio chem, I just don’t get it. Doesn't mean I don’t want to or try to…

“I love the smell of…”
breakfast
When I was little, on a Saturday morning, I remember being awakened by my dad mowing the lawn in the summertime. The awesome smell of freshly cut grass would waft through my open window in my room and force myself up to start the day. Once he came inside I would immediately bound downstairs cause I knew one thing for certain, my dad loves cooking breakfast. Sure enough, the moment I was in the kitchen he would offer to cook something up for us girls. The smell of bacon, sausage and eggs makes me remember those beautiful memories of childhood summer mornings!

“Something I heard today"
the birds chirping
Something I look forward to hearing as the days get lo
nger and the weather gets warmer here in Michigan.

“My signature style”
smiles + confidence

That’s all a girl needs to be sexy!

Greenhouse @ Fred Meijer Gardens

Last week Max and I had the opportunity to freely explore the Fred Meijer Gardens Springtime family event. Seeing as how viewing the “butterfly room” had been on both of our to-do lists since last Spring, we happily took advantage of the opportunity!

The greenhouse at Fred Meijer is unlike anything I've seen before (in Michigan). It’s absolutely incredible and magically transports anyone who enters to a paradise of butterfly hopes and tropical dreams. I can’t even begin to imagine how long it took to grow some of these trees and vines to be so luscious… but the word that comes to mind is decades!

This place was absolutely beautiful! You could feel the humidity in the room and you could smell the plants. These sensations made my heart ache for summertime and for Mexico (family vacation or honeymoon number 2 would do!).

It was a PERFECT way to spend a dreary Tuesday in Michigan. A Tuesday that was knocking on May’s door, yet still snowing… yeah I needed the humidity and tropical magic of that room J

Friday Five!

{succulents to put a little life in our mantle}
________________________________________________________

This week stared off slow but then finished in the blink of an eye. All the sudden it’s the weekend again and I could not be more thrilled. Not only will it be spent relaxing and exploring the city on Saturday with Emily, but it’s finally going to warm up and get sunny out again! The weather this week has been miserable and I seem to have fallen into a bit of a slump. Hopefully this weekend will turn all that around just in time to welcome May flowers in one week!!

Friday Forte:

{rosewater toner is my newest beauty obsession (check out Lyndsey’s HandcraftedNaturals!)}

{Moscow mules are really hitting the spot recently. Ginger beer bottles everywhere!}

{laptop bag love from Poland!}

{another ginger fixation as of late}

Eastown Loves - Black Lamb

As I slowly start to widdle away at my "to see" list of Grand Rapids I can't help but love this city more and more! Black Lamb is just another Eastown treasure located right next to our favorite sushi restaurant, Maru, on Cherry Street (Eastown is essentially 3 main street, Cherry being one of them!).

Black Lamb is a shop that is "inspired by travel, art, fashion and people, especially the eccentrics and visionaries". SOLD!

Enjoy and be sure to stop in if you're ever in the area.

Food Show Season – Spring 2015

This was my first Food Show season back in 3 years. It felt good. I missed this part of work and this side of the business. It’s a busy time and exhausting but fun exhausting. We were wined and dined, entertained and worked to the bone, but it was a great first month back in Marketing and I couldn't be happier J

Here’s a few glimpses into Food Show life in Spring 2015 where the theme was the Gordon Food Service SHOW... intended to promote our big announcement from October 2014.

{the Food at Toasted Oak was some of the best I've ever had... that skillet cookie!}

{just a little glimpse inside some of our proprietary booths...}

{this season we had a "Selfie Station" to show}

{I ran into friends from college that were a part of my major but also in the Evans Scholar house (which is where Max lived all 4 years... small world!}

{the Rosemont Show... the evening started out in the VIP lounge of our hotel before being picked up by a party bus for dinner}

{i mean... the FOOD! This was the night before action in Rosemont at Tuscano's }

{always the night-capper with one bevvie plus coffee!}

{GFS bacon booth... the only thing saving me the morning after...}

{some of my favorite Food Show snacks when hunger strikes... gourmet mac & cheese and Sienna (a GFS label) muffins!}

{Cleveland Pre-Game before the Indians Baseball game was at Tilted Kilt... not exactly of the GFS culture but some of the most fun I've had a vendor/broker dinner}

{we celebrated the retirement of an amazing lady while enjoying Tilted Tea's}

{Cleveland...}

{cheers to Food Show season... until the Fall!!}
